CHAPTER NINE

“This is crazy,” Pacca muttered in a low voice as Bims stopped the car.

Neon lights flashing intermittent pink and purple announced Passion Night Club in solid letters in front of the three-level building. Two men build like seven-foot rhinos stood on either side of the wide entrance.

Bims came around and opened the door for her. He’d been like this all day, attentive and protective. She couldn’t fault his service, even if it was a bit over-the-top.

After she met with Teju, she’d bid goodbye to Aziza after promising she would be in touch. She’d returned to the house, grabbed her rucksack, and climbed into the car.

On the two-hour drive, Pacca had chatted with Bims about Scar, nothing heavy. Just about their working relationship and how long they’d known each other.

Bims seemed quite fond of his boss. He’d worked for Scar since the latter was a young prince and had followed him when he’d been cast aside by his brother.

Bims in his formal trousers and tunic set didn’t really look older than thirty years. Yet, he had to be over fifty years old since he’d been working as a bodyguard for more than three decades.

Pacca stepped out of the car. As it was barely nine o’clock on a Thursday night, there wasn’t a queue of people waiting to get in.

Strange. She’d had the impression that the venue was always packed.

If the place wasn’t busy, it meant she would soon come face-to-face with Scar.

She still hadn’t figured out what she would say to him.

The issue of being his soulmate couldn’t be avoided since he’d assigned his team to guard her. They had to work out what it meant for them in the short term, at least.

Then there was the issue of why she had been attacked.

On the other side was the reason she was in Rueto in the first place. He already suspected her intentions. Should she tell him the rest? Could she trust Scar with the assignment? What would he do when he found out the details?

Then there was the issue of Lucas Dembe. Never mind that Teju probably had someone following her.

Damn. Things were so complicated.

So, coming here tonight was dangerous. However, she had little choice in the matter. Seducing Scar to find out his secrets was out of the question. She couldn’t take advantage of him in that manner. She just had to figure out another way of getting out of this problem.

She sucked in a deep breath to calm her nerves. Then she walked towards the club.

The bouncers returned her greeting and waved her inside. She walked through the foyer scanner. When she presented her phone to tap and pay the fee, the receptionist waved her in without a charge.

Then she walked through another set of doors into the lounge area. The place was dark and lit with more pink and purple neon lights. The guests were no more than ten in number, mostly sitting on low chairs drinking. One couple was on the parquet dance floor flowing to the beat of the music.
